My Students

I have the joy of teaching 25 kindergarten students in a Title I school. Kindergartners are an enthusiastic bunch who are inquisitive, eager to learn, and work very hard! We are "family" in our classroom. We do not see color, size, beauty, or anything else in our rooms, and we love everyone! Some of us have IEPs but enjoy being included in the general education classroom. We have lots of different needs and require a lot of positive reinforcement and rewards in order to stay on task and remember that we must behave in school.

Some of us have learning, social and emotional disabilities, but we have lots of LOVE here!

Every day, my students face incredible challenges as they strive to become fluent readers.

My school and classroom serve a racially, ethnically, religiously, and socioeconomically diverse population. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, some of these things may prevent them from acquiring the life experiences many of us see as "typical". With the right help, we can learn to read—and even to enjoy reading—and with your support, we can be anything we want to.

My Project

These games will continue to enhance the print-rich environment that I strive to create. My classroom is a place that my students really enjoy working, reading, and playing all while they are learning. All of these games have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school as they develop beginning reading skills while they work and play on various activities. My students will be able to choose activities, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

With these new games, my students will be able to choose from a variety of activities that will allow them to work independently at their own independent level.

They will also be able to choose activities that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these games will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences.
