Building Knowledge to Support Dyslexic Readers

My Project

Dyslexia affects one in five people. It's one of the most prevalent learning disabilities encountered in schools. Brains of dyslexic individuals utilize a different pathway to accessing literacy, but with specific instruction, can create new and successful pathways to reading. Public support is starting to grow at the younger years, through Orton-Gillingham programs, but what about students that Orton- Gillingham may not work, or need a quicker approach due to age? EBLI, Evidence Based Literary Instruction, offers older (and younger) students a program to acquire reading skills through a speech to text format, helping to quicken reading acquisition.

I want to acquire the skills and help more students with dyslexia by learning a new instructional approach: Evidence Based Literacy Instruction.

Through a speech to text program, I will learn strategies that will work for more students.

I’m incredibly passionate and dedicated to the field of dyslexia and have been learning and studying it for over six years. I’m working to try to bring more awareness to the community at large and would truly love the chance to increase my skills. Through this project, I will be able to help current and past students with trying a new program that may be more efficient for their learning style.
