I am elated to be back in my hometown in MI, teaching in the very same district that I was educated in. For the past 7 years, I have been able to grow professionally as a Pre-K teacher in Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo afforded me the opportunity to educate in a very diverse school with students of all backgrounds and abilities. I am grateful for the time I had there because I believe it allowed me to deepen my vision for the future of education.
In my classroom I focus heavily on relationship building, creating a culture of kindness, and strengthening social-emotional competency.
I could not be more excited to share my love and understanding of families from various backgrounds with my families.
My kindergarten scholars and their families have been doing their best to adjust to this new way of learning and I see their efforts every day. My students come from various backgrounds within the city of Detroit. Our school is the gem of the Brightmoor community and I'm glad to be here to teach AND learn from them. I love that my students put forth their best efforts to stay engaged and they love to interact and celebrate!
Students have been doing the best they can as they work hard to build their math schools from home. It has been extremely difficult as we move on to have them only be able to watch me use manipulatives through the camera to demonstrate math skills. Students do have access to digital manipulatives, but we all know that hands-on is best for younger students.
This project will allow us to provide students with the math materials they need at home; to continue practicing what they learn on screen in real time with the teacher.
The cubes, ten frames, counting materials, and write and wipe boards will be key in helping students really solidify their math skills.
