Building Imagination & Background Knowledge

Help me give my students access to books that interest and excite their imaginations. The indigenous population of students I teach need to build more background knowledge and exposure to different things. Books help grant them this access.

My Project

Granting students access to books that help engage them, build interest and excite their imaginations is one goal of my classroom. The indigenous population of students I teach need to build background knowledge and books help grant them this access to a world outside their own. They can explore fantasy, history, emotions, biographies and learn about different cultures. Our curriculum has several units but the stories are limited and not always exciting. I want to provide them with additional resources and opportunities to make connections to the things we are learning.

For example, we learn about the community but it’s very minimal.

I want them to be able to explore a vast amount of jobs and have dreams and aspirations for whatever they may want to become when they are older.

I also want to have books that fit all the interests of my students so they can find something that brings them joy.
