Have you ever had the opportunity to use a yoga ball and mat to exercise? For most kids, the answer is no! By having this opportunity, my students will learn the importance of core strengthening and help promote healthy habits for life.
I teach Health Fitness (PreKindergarten - 5th grade) at a very diverse school.
Some of my students are ESL and some are Gifted and Talented. Many of them inquire about healthy habits and want to learn more about increasing strength and endurance. A lot of them have participated in the Oliver Foundation and are in the midst of changing the way they eat and exercise.
My Project
By providing children various exercises that they can complete both at home and at school, will help increase their inner core strength overall. Using the Yoga Balls and Yoga Mats, I will have the ability to teach small groups multiple ways to keep moving and staying fit. I am in hopes that what they learn and practice will be part of a healthy, lifelong habit.
By providing kids the opportunities to "keep moving", helps them prevent childhood obesity and diabetes.
It also helps them to build muscle where they may not have had it before. Core stability also helps people balance. Furthermore, Yoga activities have been accredited as a stress relieving activity limited impact on joints. It is something everyone can succeed at which helps them feel good about themselves.
