My Project

My special education students are learning about fitness and exercise! We are in the Seattle Public Schools BRIDGES transition program for students ages 18-22 focusing on life skills, independent living skills, and community access. I have students with Autism, Down Syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and more. My students with also have sensory needs and working in walking, running, and weight lifting can help get their energy out safely!

I am hoping to teach my students the importance of exercise and taking care of their bodies!

In addition to learning about ways to be active, students will learn and track their healthy habits using Fitbits. They can compete with their classmates and teachers, hopefully some healthy competition will be motivating!

Living in Seattle, it is raining almost daily in the winter. A treadmill would help us get steps in when it is raining and students do not want to go outside. We do dance/fitness videos daily and the dumbbells would help work in basic weight lifting.
