Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students stay in a low-income/flood zone area. Many of their parents were unable to provide school supplies or uniforms for our students. This is mostly because the majority of them have suffered from flooding during Hurricane Harvey. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I have students that are from foster homes, have recently relocated, and have special needs.

Despite their everyday challenges, they show up open and willing to learn!

The students are pretty fun to be around and remain very optimistic about life and their future. When they visited Texas A&M Galveston, they came back to school with a new focus and drive. They often try to work through the toughest problems asking for more time to solve on their own. This often makes me proud. Please help us be great!

My Project

Small changes make big differences. For my project there is going to be a classroom organizer, where students can find assignments, work missed, extra credit, as well as challenging assignments for self advancement. I am looking for small things that will make big differences in my classroom. Having a label maker and several different organizers around the classroom, I believe can help turn my classroom into a place of independence and progression. I am asking for 6 bins that will be used for supply storage and daily assignment storage. This will save students time because they will not have to leave their seats for materials, such as pencils, scratch paper, scissors, or glue. There will be no need to pass things out, and have students pick them up. This will allow for us to maximize instructional time.
