Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is in the heart of Queens, and as a result my students come from all over the world. Many of these children are learning English for the first time, and as a result struggle academically which can hurt their confidence and love of learning.

This is where I come in!

With me, students are able to show what they can do through technology! As the technology teacher my students have access to software that allows them to present what they are learning with their classroom teachers in many different ways; instead of just writing an essay or book report. Students have made animated PowerPoints teaching various math skills, they have created comics retelling their favorite stories or teaching other children how to make good choices online, they teach about history and culture by making movies and news reports. This keeps my young learners engaged, confident and eager to learn, no matter what core subject is being taught!

My Project

There is a huge push towards STEM activities, with good reason! A focus in STEM allows students to fine tune their problem solving and reasoning skills. It lets young boys and girls find a love for science, math and engineering that they wouldn't find otherwise.

With these UBTECH robotics kits, I will be able to dive even deeper into STEM activities using Project Based Learning!

My students will move beyond sharing what they are learning with their classroom teachers, and into deeper understanding of robotics! This STEM equipment and curriculum will allow me to create young engineers who explore, make predictions, problem solve, find errors and correct them all while having fun!
