Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I want to motivate and support my students' social-emotional development by providing them with comfortable spaces within the classroom and hand-held manipulation objects to help keep them focused.

My students are from Trenton, New Jersey, and have faced many adversities.

The majority are suffering from poverty, drug and violence-riddled neighborhoods, and the absence of parents in the home. Many have siblings to care for, and therefore their own educational and social-emotional needs are often pushed to the side. Most students do not understand or know how to maintain healthy emotional development.

I admire how my students possess incredible resilience and strength, continually demonstrating their ability to grow, learn, and overcome challenges with courage and determination, despite their deficiencies. Providing my students with a comfortable safe space within my classroom will help relieve the pressures and stress of their high school workload and experience.
