This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The importance of early language development is sometimes overlooked when we think about developing literacy skills. This can set our students up for failure. Highlighting early language development can serve to boost literacy and early communication skills, which in turn sets our learners up for success!
I envision a world where my speech and language therapy sessions are equipped with fun and engaging materials that allow my learners to build on their developing skills.
Materials such as sensory toys, Play-doh, and kinetic sand will be used to help students build important sensory regulation communication skills; The kindergarten readiness kit, Splash reading games, Storytime viewers and memory games will be used to engage students in reading comprehension activities that are fun; Finally, all of the books from Mahogany books will be used for reading development activities depicting characters that look like the students I serve. All of the materials will be used to create a relevant and engaging curriculum that maximizes each student's learning.
