My Students

My students are, in one word: amazing. They aspire to be future lawyers, doctors, astronauts, teachers, professional athletes, and so much more.

However, my students are also facing many challenges.

Our school is located in an urban impoverished community. Our school is Title 1; meaning the majority of students qualify for free/reduced lunch.

Regardless of the hardships my students face, they are relentless and show up to work hard. It is my job to ensure they receive an excellent education; one that will aid them in pursuing their biggest dreams.

My Project

These materials will help my students grow to be stronger readers and push my students to become critical thinkers.

Many of the books contain characters that children relate to and teach important topics such as kindness, equality, and justice.

As fourth graders, my students are beginning to develop their own opinions about justice. It is important to feed this curiosity to drive classroom discussion.

I picked TIME magazine to inform my students about current events in a kid-friendly manner. By reading about current events, my students can analyze the text using reading strategies, and then form their own opinions and view of the world.
