My Students

Each of us can probably think of someone that inspired us to study the profession we chose. The kindergarten block center develops communication skills and may spark an interest in design, architecture and engineering in young students. The blocks at our school are very old and rough.

I teach at a public school in Iowa that has a high level of poverty and a great deal of diversity.

It is my goal to provide the very best education possible. Academic skills are a priority but students also need to learn the important social skills of how to work together, cooperate, get along, share and play together.

My Project

Students will be able to safely use a variety of blocks during center time. The blocks will also be integrated into academic skills such as sorting, matching, problem solving, counting and number identification. Students will learn to share, play together, be creative, construct buildings, design things and communicate with each other, while also being encouraged to use their imagination. Students will develop skills such as sharing, cooperation and problem solving, which are essential skills that will be needed for success in school and in life.

The block center will provide students with a safe way to build and design structures, while also teaching important social skills.

Blocks encourage students to be creative and to use their imagination. Through the block center, students will be introduced to the fields of architecture, engineering and design.
