My students need building materials that nurture creativity, including stack and build animals, stretch and connect builders, gear builders, 3D magnet builders, geo builders, and zig zag blocks.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach preschool students (ages 3-5) with developmental delays in a Title I school in Arizona. Additionally, we are fortunate to have a couple typically developing "peer role models" in our classroom.
My students experience challenges like learning school skills, developing communication strategies, increasing academic knowledge, and improving social skills like sharing and positive peer interactions.
My goal is to provide interventions that decrease their delays by the time these beautiful kids go to kindergarten! My students all have unique gifts and skills that are growing every day. They love to learn, come to school every day with huge smiles and have families that are dedicated to their progress (despite the lack of financial resources in our community). These kids are the future, and meaningful learning opportunities are their key to success.
My Project
After the winter holidays, we are beginning a unit about CREATIVITY! My students (85% boys!) love to construct with items like legos. They need new opportunities that encourage creativity through the building and constructing from their imagination with unique and challenging materials. These materials are AMAZING! My personal favorite is the “Stretch and Connect Builders.” These consist of stretchy tubes (like an accordion) and connectors. I had these in my last classroom, and students were able to build amazing things like giraffes and lions. I can’t wait to see what the kids will make because this group of students is so creative! I also love the 3D magnet builders that students can assemble into structures. I know that the students will be fascinated and challenged to find strategies that allow them to build tall and intricate buildings or creatures with the 3D magnets. Preschool is all about hands-on learning. I know these awesome materials will unlock their creativity while also working on fine motor skills, problem-solving, social challenges like sharing and cooperation, and perseverance.
Research shows that early intervention special education programs make a huge difference on the overall outcome for kids.
If you'd like to make an impact on my precious kids, their dedicated families, and a classroom staff that works tirelessly to come up with creative solutions to motivate students...you have found your project! Thank you for helping us build our creativity to new heights!
