Help me give my students carpet circles, LEGOs, magnetic building blocks and toys, dominoes, and interlocking building blocks and bars to enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills!

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Kids have a natural creativity and curiosity that must be fostered and developed to maximize their potential. My third graders enjoy exploring, building, and creating and while doing so they are developing critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills, and building their creativity. Each building set also has additional benefits as well. The LEGOs and interlocking building discs and building bars will also help with continuing to develop students’ fine motor skills as they build. The dominoes will encourage patience and perseverance as they create more complex sequences. The magnetic blocks, sticks, and balls also build a curiosity to explore more with magnets and how they work. The carpet circles will give the students the flexibility to work throughout the room so they can have the solid foundation of the tile floor for their builds but be comfortable at the same time.

Creative thinking and problem solving are skills that have to be developed and building materials and kits like Legos, dominoes, magnetic blocks, and the other items in this project are going to give the students the opportunity to grow as 21st century learners.

Many of these activities will be available to the students first thing in the morning, which gives them a great way to stretch and warm up their brains for the day ahead, and again at the end of the day as a cooldown to relax their minds to process and apply things they have learned. The skills are there, now it’s time to give them the tools to grow them!
