Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My goal is to provide my students with hands-on, real-life learning experiences every day.

My students are creative and thoughtful, they like to sing and dance, and they love lots of positive feedback.

Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive free or reduced-price lunches. When they walk through my door I focus on what they are capable of accomplishing, and measure their growth throughout the year. By doing this, I hope to inspire them to achieve even the most ambitious of their goals.

My Project

My students are different in a variety of ways. They have different learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses, yet they all have to be taught the same concepts. It is therefore important that my lessons are differentiated to meet the needs of each student. Technology has been invaluable in this endeavor. When I work with a small group of students on their area of weakness, the other students work in cooperative groups on Chromebooks. Unfortunately, the students don't always have their own headphones, or with the recent changes in technology, their headphones don't work with our Chromebooks. This will allow students to watch an instructional video at their own pace, or complete assignments without distracting other students. The wipes will keep the headphones (and computers) free of germs so my students stay healthy.

Donations to this project will make a difference in the differentiated learning instruction in my classroom and individualized learning for my students.

By helping provide these essential items (headphones & wipes), my students' learning needs will be met. They will also be able to work effectively with technology, a necessary part of preparing my students for living and working in the 21st century.
