This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I will be teaching another group of fabulous First Graders in the 2024-2025 school year. As I get ready to welcome my new students to my classroom, our home away from home, one of my goals is to consciously teach empathy and compassion.

By teaching compassion and empathy, my students will learn to see the world through the eyes of others, build stronger relationships, improve their social skills, engage in positive behavior, and enhance their mental well-being.

After reading The book, "The ABC’s of Emotions" my students will learn about the different emotions that we all experience as humans. They will take examples from the book to build their compassion and empathy. I will be able to measure my students’ empathy and compassion for themselves and others through their actions as they interact with their classmates and others. My students will take the book home to share with their families and this will allow my students to talk about what they are learning and how they are using the book in class to be kinder and more compassionate. This will have an impact on their families to spread the power of empathy and compassion in their homes and in turn go out to the community.
