This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My inner city second grade students are eager to learn and love to be involved in engaging lessons. Being a part of a special classroom community where everyone is heard and valued is so important. Building relationships and having a gathering and sharing spot within the classroom is essential to their learning process. Second graders love to share their thoughts and ideas with each other in our classroom gathering spot. It is also an area where they listen to stories, read to each other, and help each other with learning.

My Project

Having a classroom carpet will provide my students with a clean, soft area to share with each other and to learn. It will give us a spot to hold morning meetings, whole group lessons, and story times. Students will have a special place to buddy read, work on learning centers, and problem solve with partners. It will provide students with an alternate seating opportunity where they can lay down to read or work on an assignment. A classroom carpet will provide an area where students can foster peer relationships that will ensure positive self esteem and in turn a joy of learning.
