My Project

My name is Ms. Allen, and I have the incredible privilege of being a 7th grade Humanities educator at an all-boys school in the vibrant heart of Brooklyn, NYC. For the past eight years, I have poured my heart and soul into nurturing my students' love for reading by introducing them to a diverse array of genres and authors who truly represent them. It has been a joy to witness my students grow as avid readers, with many achieving an impressive average increase of at least 1.5 years in their reading levels over the school year!

To sustain this remarkable progress, I am committed to creating an inviting and dynamic space where my students can immerse themselves in the pages of a novel.

However, I often find that they feel constrained by the traditional nonfiction and fiction titles commonly found in classrooms. I want to break those barriers and meet the varied needs of my learners by introducing exciting new titles that resonate with them.

I've started incorporating a range of genres, from thought-provoking poetry to engaging comic books, and the response from my students has been nothing short of exhilarating! Their excitement and eagerness to explore these new choices have been a testament to the power of diverse literature in fostering a love of reading.

I am reaching out for your support to help bring this magic into our classroom! Together, we can create an environment bursting with stories, voices, and perspectives that reflect the richness of our world.
