My Project

Students need social emotional learning support. Students need to be able to understand different emotions and how to manage them. The emotions and feelings charts, feelings wheel chart, emotion coins will help students to see different facial expressions that match different emotions to better understand their own emotions, as well as the feelings of others. Students sometimes misunderstand the feelings, facial expressions, and body language of others and thus react or respond in ways that don’t match the situation so the conversation starter cards will help them to better communicate their own feeling, as well as understand the feelings, situation, and how to better respond to different scenarios. When students are calm, they can better engage academically. They also feel more confident and comfortable to participate in discussions and communicate with their peers. The weighted stuffed animals, weighted lap pad, and sensory toys will help them to calm down when emotions are heightened. This will also help students to be in a better head space to effectively communicate their feelings, wants, and needs, as well as feel safe and comfortable to around the class again. Everyone needs a safe space to express themselves in order to grow socially, academically, and have better emotional intelligence. Communication is the key to success in any environment whether it be in the classroom, at a sporting event, in the workplace, with family and/or friends, etc. the sticky situation cards will help students to understand how to communicate effectively with different types of people, environments, and situations. Being able to effectively express and communicate feelings can help students be successful in various situations.
