A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are the future. Many come from humble beginnings, but many are blessed with gifts, hopes & dreams that will lead them to success. Their "success will be measured not so much by the position that they achieved, but by the obstacles that they've overcome while trying to succeed" (B. Washington). They should be given a chance to learn about Mandela who believed "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." They should be given the chance to grow up learning that "Black History is American History" & should also "Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations" (Dr. Jemison). They should be encouraged to discover that "It isn't where you come from, it's where you're going that counts" (E. Fritzgerald). They should also know that "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience & the passion to reach for the stars to change the world" (H. Tubman). Barack Obama once said, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or other time. We're the ones; we've been waiting for. We're the change we seek." I see my students as game changers.
My Project
For Black History Month, we like to bring the whole community together in our school by creating a living museum full of artifacts. While exploring our exhibits, children & adults can learn together about the influences, the opposition & the actions of African Americans. It is a chance for people to gain knowledge about their past history, origins & cultures. Ultimately, it is a time to celebrate the true goal of education which brings intelligence & character together.
It is a chance to appreciate the struggle... "without struggle, there is no progress" (Douglass).
We will use the materials to enhance our living museum exhibits to celebrate a diverse group of game changers.
We are rooted in our past and inspiring the future.
