Building Brain POWER Through the Amazing Rubik's Cube

My Project

The Rubik's Cube is a classic toy that children of all ages have enjoyed around the world since the 1970's. This six faced, six colored, cube that has an internal pivot mechanism that allows this toy to twist and turn independently has many benefits besides just pure fun. One way that the Rubik's Cube builds brain power is retention of information. When playing with the Rubik's Cube it helps activate your memory and your brain's ability to store information. Another way that the Rubik's Cube builds brain power is through creativity. Solving puzzles encouragers creative problem solving which is highly important in developing minds.

My goal for this project is to bring back some old-fashioned fun into the classroom by unplugging today's entertainment and getting our brains powered by using our hands and minds.

Some may call me old-fashioned but starring at a screen is not much fun and does not power my brain. Unfortunately, for many of our kids the screen is the only form of entertainment that they know. This is not the time to get into the pros and cons of technology but when students have free time, they usually grab their devices and head to YouTube. YouTube does have educational value but often times this is not what our kids are using it for. I found that when my students had completed their lessons for the day they wanted to play with the Rubik's Cube and not get on the computer.

My school is a Title 1 school and many of our students come from single parent homes and a lot of adult responsibilities fall on them which has caused them to miss out on being a child. Many of our parents have to decide between purchasing a fun toy like a Rubik's Cube or food.
