My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students come from very diverse backgrounds and many are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. One challenge the children at my school have is not getting enough opportunities to use their hands and use their imagination. Many of the children start school lacking the motor skills needed to hold writing tools thus making it difficult to write and cut properly.

Another challenge my students face is lacking creativity.

Creativity is seeing things in new ways and the ability to think of something and making it come to life. In the 21st century, children are required to think creatively and critically in all subject areas. As technology develops and children are spending most of their free time using apps, electronics, and video games robots are doing for the children thus taking the creativity away.

My Project

Creativity and problem solving are the keys to success in the future and kindergarten is where we bring that creativity out. With so many appealing electronic and battery powered gadgets children don't always have the opportunity to interact with things that stimulate their creativity, promote intellectual and physical development but Legos will give them those opportunities.

Engineering stimulates the mind and gives children the chance to make things, dismantle things, and fix things.

Legos promote fine motor skills, develop creativity, and provide opportunity to try new skills without fear or failure.

Having an organized workspace and a variety of lego bricks will create an array of engaging and learning experiences.
