My Students

I teach 26 energetic 1st grade students who come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and experiences. I have some students from low income families, some who receive free/reduced lunch, as well as gifted and high achieving learners. We come from a small school at the farthest end of the valley, but we have a big heart.

My students love to dance, do art projects, and experience learning through hands-on activities that get them excited.

What they need most is an inclusive, safe environment where they feel at ease and can be ready to learn. They are a spirited bunch and are enthusiastic about learning.

My Project

These engaging, hands-on activities will help my students build upon their foundational reading and writing skills that they learned in Kindergarten. The skill building centers and phonics crossword puzzles will be used for strengthening their language and vocabulary development, along with improving their grammar and reading comprehension skills. All of the activities requested include written words as well as related pictures that will help my students become more engaged and allow them to make more concrete connections.

The journals and ready to write prompts will help my students with following directions and writing stronger sentences.

With the help of these materials, my students will feel more comfortable with writing and will hopefully become life long writers. When my students are back in class, we will use these wonderful, interactive materials to stay on track with our learning.
