Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are moderate to severe nonverbal special education preschool students who have autism spectrum disorder. They come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, but primarily low. The only way to engage these students is to modify materials in order to meet their individual needs, especially sensory needs. They utilize VODs (Vocal Output Devices), picture icons, communication boards, gestures, signs, and eye gaze to express their wants, needs, and opinions. I love being creative and helping them become more interactive with objects, toys, and books.

My Project

Developing communication skills through play is essential for preschool students. My students are nonverbal or have limited verbal skills, so it is crucial that I create opportunities for them to learn language using a variety of materials.

Play based speech therapy provides interactive and engaging experiences for my little ones to practice communicating with others.

Block sets will help build not only communication skills, but also imaginative play skills. Strong communication and play skills help children develop strong literacy skills as well.

Please help me obtain these building sets so that I may help my students build their communication skills.
