Kindergarten is a time for exploring, creating and discovering new things. Young children need materials to support their ideas and imaginations.

I teach 24 Kindergarten students who are full of ideas, and need a way to express them. We have recently begun to study our neighborhood, which is made up of huge, skyscraper buildings, and need blocks to help recreate such a beautiful skyline.

Each day, we have a set period of time for Centers, which is when the students get to explore different creative areas (art, dramatic play, blocks, etc). Recently, students have developed a great interest in building a city of their own in our Block Center. Unfortunately, my classroom is not equipped with enough blocks for them to create this. They have so many great ideas that they have tried to build, but have come across many roadblocks, usually due to a lack of equipment.

By providing a complete block set to my students, it will give them enough materials to create, build, develop and imagine many scenarios. Our Block Center fosters language development, writing, accountable talk and creative expression...all from plain wooden blocks! You would be surprised how much a child can create if given the proper instruments!
