My Project

A block table provides an ideal open-ended play environment for preschoolers that fosters development across multiple key areas. As children manipulate wooden blocks of various shapes, sizes, and colors, they refine their fine motor skills through grasping, stacking, and balancing the blocks to create structures. This process also enhances their problem-solving abilities as they experiment with different configurations and learn from trial and error to build towers, bridges, and other creations. By navigating the spatial relationships between blocks, children develop a stronger sense of spatial awareness and an understanding of concepts like over, under, next to, and in front of. The open-ended nature of block play also sparks their creativity and imagination as they construct unique designs or engage in pretend play with their buildings, fostering storytelling and language skills as they describe their creations. Moreover, working with blocks introduces basic mathematical concepts such as counting, sorting, and patterning, laying the foundation for later math learning. With so many developmental benefits, a block table is a valuable addition to any preschool classroom.

Building with blocks provides children with a wealth of educational benefits that extend far beyond the simple joy of play.

As young children manipulate and stack blocks, they begin to learn essential social skills like taking turns and sharing limited resources with their peers.

My students come from an underprivileged community where educational resources and opportunities for enrichment are limited. Many of their families struggle financially, leaving little room for "extras" like building blocks and other hands-on learning toys at home. Despite these challenges, my students show an innate curiosity and love of learning. They especially light up when given the chance to build, construct, and play together collaboratively
