Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an educator at a dual language elementary school near the Texas-Mexico border, I have the privilege of teaching bright, resilient students who are eager to learn. Many of my students are bilingual learners who thrive when given access to resources that celebrate their language and culture. They are curious, hardworking, and full of potential, but they need more bilingual literacy materials to develop their reading skills in both English and Spanish.

By providing them with high-quality Spanish books and an organized, inviting reading space, I hope to foster a lifelong love for reading.

To support my students’ literacy development, I am requesting a collection of Spanish books that will allow them to strengthen their reading skills in their native language while building their English proficiency. Additionally, I am requesting a storage cabinet to create an organized and accessible classroom library. Many of my students do not have books at home, and having a well-structured, inviting literacy corner will encourage independent reading and book exploration. With this cabinet, books will be neatly stored and easy to access, fostering responsibility and ownership over their reading journey.
