Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a fantastic group of 23 first graders! I teach in an urban district and have a wide range of ability levels throughout my class. My students are eager to learn and always helpful. We have have remote for the past year and we will soon be returning to our classroom both virtually and through a hybrid model.

They are some of the most caring and compassionate 6 and 7 year olds that I have ever met.

They truly love coming to class almost as much as I love seeing those faces each and every day!

My Project

I want to give both my virtual and hybrid the same experience of enhancing their word building skills both in and out of the classroom! After 13 months of being virtual kindergarteners and now 1st graders, my students need to physically manipulate the letters in the words that they are building to enhance their phonemic awareness! A stronger sight word base would help them progress in both their reading and writing! I would be able to model the building of our weekly High Frequency words and phonics focus on the document camera, while both my hybrid students in the classroom and virtual students build the words along with me!
