My Students

I work with a great group of students in kindergarten through 5th grade who speak Spanish, Arabic, French, Chinese, Hmong, and English. They are working hard to master the skills they need to be successful in life.

I love coming to school each day to work with such hard-working students who are so excited to learn.

They attend a large school of over 1100 students. We have a great school that has recently been designated by our state as a reward school for our students' high achievement and our work at closing the achievement gap. You can help us continue to improve!

My Project

The program I use with my students works to improve their language skills while also building their background knowledge of different literary, science, and social studies themes. Building their background knowledge is a very important part of helping them catch up to their native English speaking peers. I want to improve their background knowledge even more by creating text sets with books at different levels about the concepts we are studying.

My students are so eager to learn about the world around them, and they love to read!

We have so much fun learning more about the government, inventions, electricity, weather, natural disasters, and more. These books will allow them to learn even more about the concepts we are studying. They will be able to check these books out from me to read during their independent reading time in class or to bring home and read. Many of the books are graphic novels, which are my students' favorite type of books. The picture support from these types of books helps them understand difficult content.
