My Students

First graders are an awful lot of fun, but it takes a certain level of creativity to keep them engaged. My kids have been labeled as students of "low income status" at a "highest poverty" school. My kiddos are full of heart, and they really care about each other. My goal is to make sure they know that I care about them too.

My students often have to take their crayons and pencils home with them every night just so they are able to do their homework and play.

Overcoming their labels of being "in need," my kids are some of the most caring students I have ever met. They really look out for each other and make sure that everyone gets included in activities. My school may not be the most wealthy, but it tries hard to act like a family.

My Project

These materials will help my students learn about reading, math, and social skills through art. By contributing to this project, you will truly be "Empowering Students Through Art." Active play is so important in the younger grades, and these supplies will help my kids to learn while they are engaging in building and creating.

Students will be spending their "morning work" time by collaborating with peers to paint, build, draw, and create.

The materials in the project will give students hands-on experiences to learn and create, and it will also provide storage solutions for all of these exciting new supplies. Students will be getting pattern block cards that will help them learn to sort and distinguish between shapes while they build neat designs. Students will use counting bears to sort and reinforce counting skills. The lacing cards and geo boards will help students develop fine motor skills while they create fun shapes. Students will be having so much fun that they won't even notice that they will be learning and reenforcing skills like counting, sorting, and recognizing and building shapes.
