Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a title 1 diverse school (community) that consist of 500 students from all walks of life: 20% homeless, 20% with special education services and 60% of students speak a different language other than English at home. My students are in 3rd graders with reading comprehension, fluency and behavioral difficulties, some being two or more years behind grade level. They are students who are passionate and eager about learning, however having academic and social deficiencies, they have not been afforded the opportunity to reach their full potential.

My Project

Students will use the tablets during guided reading to access programs such as Lexia, ST Math, as well as listening to audio books at their current instructional level. This allows students to get personalized and effective support with literacy and math skills.

Giving students access to tablets keeps them engaged, enthused about learning, as well as connecting them to an ever growing technology based world.

The students in my classroom have a wide range of needs and technology has proven to be accessible to many different learning styles. This especially includes our large group of ELL learners who often struggle accessing high level texts with content specific vocabulary.
