My Students

7th and 8th grade can be an extremely challenging time both academically and personally, even more so when students lack the most basic school supplies. Students in my class have so much potential just waiting to be unlocked. As a teacher in a low-income school, I strive to ensure that my students are provided with an engaging and rigorous education that instills in them the passion to be lifelong learners.

Many of my students are designated Special Ed or ESOL and come from single-parent households.

Most of the textbooks in my classroom are as old as the students using them, and it shows. Because of this, most of what I teach comes directly from primary sources or other materials that I manipulate and copy for my students directly.

My Project

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn." These famous words by Benjamin Franklin still hold true.

The only way to truly teach students is to actively involve them in the learning process in an authentic manner.

To accomplish this I am requesting an half circle table to be able to create a small group learning space in my classroom. This will become a space where students can work together on hands-on projects or I can reteach any necessary skills.

I am also requesting a class set of white boards for students to actively participate in lessons every day. The white boards will be used for students to ask and andwer questions and practice writing skills throughout the class.

We will use Post-its and color pencils to create a "What I Learned" and "Discussion" board in the classroom so that students may feel comfortable moving and demonstrating skills they've mastered.

All students regardless of level or background improve when they actively participate in their learning. By donating to our project you will help to improve student focus and engagement which will create a dramatic increase in student acheivement.
