Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

First grade is a fundamental grade for literacy, and this year my students' reading skills have blossomed! Their fluency is improving, and they're developing a sincere motivation for reading. They love our daily "Drop Everything and Read" time and are so excited about filling their book bins each week.

My Project

I'm a first-year teacher in a new building. My students and I have turned our blank slate classroom into a bright and warm learning environment, and we've been having a great year. They are learning to read and write in Spanish, and we have many district-provided leveled readers. While they've all been making great progress with these materials, a new classroom library would take their reading to a new level.

I hope to offer my student a Spanish-language equivalent to collections of bright, fun English language books in our school.

I want my students to see that Spanish books are fun too! Please help me fill my shelves with authentic Spanish-language texts, with books where my students can see themselves within the pages, and with stories that make them want to keep reading.
