Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a group of strong, passionate, eager diverse students that are so excited to continue to build their reading fluency after facing many changes and challenges due to a global pandemic.

I teach in a high-poverty section of New York located in the Bronx with very limited resources.

One hundred percent of our students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students don't even have the resources to further their learning at home.

However, with a little creativity, each student helps one another in order to further challenge their thinking. Each of my students learns through many different learning styles. It is very important to have the right tools to accommodate and continuously meet their needs and that will help each student to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of many new learning concepts.

A book can take us anywhere: to another city, or even explore an alternative world where each student becomes immersed in the lives of the characters and learns about a culture entirely different from their own.

Reading is a very powerful tool that expands the mind of every child.

Reading is so important because it helps each student to explore new words, phrases, and experience emotions that will enhance their development.

This is why I advocate every day the importance of reading a book. Reading is a key part of class 304 daily routine, which I would love to continue to help build in our diverse classroom.

Each student will be able to use these wonderful books in class to practice a specific reading skill and/or strategy when working independently or in guided reading groups.
