My Project

This year, Woodbury High School American Sign Language (ASL) students continued an inclusion project which began last year. Students in ASL Concurrent Enrollment/Level 4 used ASL to translate children’s books focused on ASL, Deaf Culture, deaf blindness, and being deaf or hard of hearing with the focus on educating elementary students and promoting inclusion.

Book pages were scanned and students used editing software to add a video on each page translating the English words to ASL for ASL users.

At the end of each book, ASL students teach the reader sign language based on content from the book. The written content is voiced for full inclusion and to help promote reading! QR codes are created and will be placed on the book making it easy for elementary students to scan the code and view the video! ASL students will visit district elementary schools during media time and promote their book. The goal is to donate one set of 48 books to each of the 16 elementary schools in the South Washington County School district.
