My Students

Our school is dedicated to giving students opportunities to work together in creative, student-driven curriculum. Our athletics program is integral in building a cohesive, spirited school environment and our basketball team has the potential to be the premier sports team on our campus.

Our public Medical Magnet High School serves the central/downtown Los Angeles area, attracting students fiercely interested in their studies with goals set on higher education.

Our demographic surveys reveal 98% minority enrollment.

My students are creative, kind, ambitious and focused. Although 84% of our students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, this economically disadvantaged classification does not hinder these students' drive to work hard and succeed.

My Project

We have little cohesiveness as a school when we attend our sporting events. We are often borrowing official game balls from the opposing school or the referees. Our athletes do not have tents to stand under during outdoor tournaments, while all other schools have branded tents with their school logos.

It is discouraging to our students to show up to events and feel as if athletics are not as important to Ortho, as they are to other opposing schools.

Having basic, quality, NFHS official game balls, shade canopies, and team water jugs are the first steps in making an effort to show our student-athletes that we expect them to compete on the same level as their opponents.

From there we will build a winning sports program, of which our community can be proud! Thanks for helping!
