This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a school that serves students with a variety of special needs including autism, intellectual disability and emotionally disturbed. From the outside looking in, people may assume they are not athletic and physically incapable, but they are wrong! Our students compete in the highest levels of competitive sports. We participate (and win) in Special Olympics games, CHAMPS middle school athletics and run in New York Road Runner events.

Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.

Our students do not back down from a challenge. That is what I love most about this age group and population. They love to be active. They love sports. They love physical education.

My Project

In my first ever DonorsChoose project, we requested and received a Nintendo Switch for interactive exercise games. This sparked an idea:

What if we create a technology-based gym?

The Ring Fit Adventure software would be an essential component of the tech gym we are trying to build. This software will help you work up a sweat while saving the world. This software combines fitness routines with the gameplay of a traditional role-playing game. In this software, you could run, jog, do knee raises to climb up stairs, and jump over obstacles in a fun and interactive way for all students. All these movements combine in a way that quickly starts to feel like a real workout. Students heart rate will rise and start to sweat after just a few minutes of gameplay. The car steering wheels are materials that students could use so that everyone could participate, with or without the hardware!
