This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Math and Science teacher in the Bronx, New York. For the past three years, our city and school communities have been hit and hurt by unexpected changes from the Covid-19 Pandemic that forever altered our lifestyles and routines. Despite our best intentions and efforts to support our students, we face challenges resulting from deepened learning gaps, limited socialization, and a reduced education budget.

I love my students' can-do attitudes toward academic barriers and taxing home circumstances.

Ninety-five percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches, and nearly 1/3 live in the NYC shelter system. This year, Mayor Eric Adams cut our school budget by about 12%, significantly affecting our school community.

For this project, we request donations for a tripod, microphone, phone mount, phone stand, USB-C cable, and wallet extension that will be used to create high-quality video content that can be shared on social media, websites, and other platforms. The video content will be used to explain complex concepts related to sustainability and conservation, such as the greenhouse effect, carbon footprint, and renewable energy. The house model kit and acrylic paints will be used to demonstrate the impacts of human activities on the environment and potential solutions. The model kit will be used to create a miniature house that represents a typical home. The model will also be used to illustrate the impacts of deforestation, air pollution, and waste disposal (plastic waste from popsicle and sour patch food packaging) on the environment.
