My Students

Working in an urban high school in Los Angeles, my students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them face daily obstacles that affect their ability to focus and learn in the classroom. I am hoping to provide interesting and engaging learning experiences to improve their interest and attention in class.

The students at my school are amazing.

They are bright, creative, smart, funny, and thoughtful. Despite their life obstacles, my students show up everyday and do their best to engage and learn in my classroom. My hope is to provide unique and novel learning experiences that keep my students engaged as well as reward them for their efforts.

My Project

A few years ago I was able to fund the purchase of a 3D printer for our classroom. After working on a small projects with my physiology course and seeing my students interest level increase through these projects I am ready to expand the 3D printer use into my integrated science courses. In order to expand the use of the 3D printer to more students, I need to be able to purchase 3d filament as well as parts to upgrade my current printer so it will continue to be reliable for the next few years. The purchase of calipers will aide my students in the design process, allowing them to make precise measurements of the models they are creating.

With your generous donations, my integrated science students will build mountains, visualize molecules and model wave patterns.

Being able to see, touch, and build physical models will boost my students interest in the class as well as their understanding of the curriculum.

Students have a definite interest in the 3D printed objects. Whenever the printer is going, students are intrigued and want to make their own objects. I would love to be able to give more students that opportunity. My goal with this project is to incorporate 3D printing at least once into each 10 week unit. Starting with Earth science, building 3D topography from topographic maps. In my chemistry unit I plan on having students use software to create models of molecules and then print physical objects of those molecules. In physics I hope to create models of wave patterns and instruments to visualize waves. I hope you will consider donating to my classroom project.
