Every year, I kick off my English class by revealing a little secret: get ready for some exciting reading and writing ahead! And of course, I'm met with the classic mix of groans and cheers. But guess what? There's a special group of students who light up because they know we'll be diving into required independent reading. Why? Well, I think it's because some students have yet to have discovered the joy of reading.
Help me build a personalized classroom library full of books handpicked by students themselves.
When students are able to voice their choice of books, they are likely to be invested in reading.
As a new teacher to the district, I would love to help create a mini-library in my classroom, where students have the luxury to read a book that they have requested to me. Over time, I've noticed that when you choose a book you're curious about or when you receive one as a gift, your whole attitude toward reading lights up. It's like the book becomes a special friend.
My goal is to make the joy of reading shine and to make my classroom buzz with all kinds of stories waiting for our students to explore them. I aim to kindle a lasting passion for reading, nurturing a classroom environment that embraces the diverse interests and curiosities of each student.
