My students are great. They are future scholars (mostly!) and excellent citizens. They are fortunate to attend one of the most diverse schools in the country. They take advantage of this diversity and learn from each others' cultures and traditions. I especially appreciate the 10-15 students who regularly come to my room at lunch to play chess. Our school is in the heart of Los Angeles, but it also has a good neighborhood feel. I am lucky to be here!
My Project
I am trying to build a more diverse and inclusive library of books to use in my 7th and 8th grade English classes. The books I currently have access to do not present a suitable variety of authors, characters, and voices.
I want the books and units I teach to reflect the diversity of the students in my school community.
One of my main goals as a middle school teacher is to help students develop a love of reading. I also want to teach more contemporary titles along with the classics.
