My Kindergarten students come from a variety of cultures, traditions, and languages. It is very important to me that I create a classroom that gives space to share and honor the diverse backgrounds of all my students. I want my students to see themselves in all parts of our classroom, including our class library.
My Project
This project will provide students with access to books in which they can see their cultures and those of their classmates. Additionally these books will help represent and teach important ideas such as diversity and inclusion.
I hope to build a classroom library that showcases diverse stories and will give students agency in being kind and accepting of other's differences.
The books in my class library serve as touchstones for myself and students as we tackle deep topics, like race and inequality. My hope is to provide a rich, deep, diverse class library where my students and I can go to further understands ourselves and each other.
