My Students

Building A Love Of Reading!

My students are a diverse group of low income second graders living in the borough of Manhattan in New York City.

Our classroom is an Integrate Co-Teaching Classroom (ICT) where students with disabilities receive integrated co-teaching services and are educated with age appropriate peers in the general education classroom. ICT provides access to the general education curriculum and specially designed instruction to meet students’ individual needs.

Our amazing students are eager readers who are ready to develop a real love of reading yet we lack a developed and diverse library of age appropriate books! Second grade is a pertinent year for learning to read and we strive to create a community of readers and critical thinkers. We are looking to stock our library with books that celebrate the diversity of our classroom. We want our students to be able to open books and see themselves in the pages with characters that look like them and live lives similar to them in order to help "hook" them and turn them into life long readers.

My Project

Our amazing students are eager readers who are ready to develop a real love of reading, yet we lack a developed and well stocked library. Your donation will help us purchase books that students will use everyday. We will use these books as a way to engage readers and get them excited to learn! Our goal is to help students grow a true love for reading! I chose books that are both fiction and non-fiction in order to appeal to all learners. Some exciting titles I chose are Pete the Cat, Sofia Martinez, Jaden Toussaint and the Magic Tree House set. Our books range all reading levels so make the most impact!
