My Project

Our school district boasts the most diverse student population in our state and is the fifth most diverse district in the country! We have a large population of students from Afghanistan, in particular.

Multi-language books support our refugee and immigrant students and their families in language acquisition.

It is our mission in the library to make sure that every child sees themselves well-represented on our shelves.

The books create a connection between home and school for the families, and offer a feeling of inclusion and acceptance in their new school.

My favorite thing is to see the students who have been here for a while guide the new students to the language section and help them select book. I also love seeing the families' reactions when they see we have books in their first languages.
