Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners. They come from Central America, South America and China. Most students come from a low income family with parents that do not speak the English language. Even though they do not speak the language, the parents try their best to help their children.

The neighborhood that the school is in has an extremely small library, thus it sometimes effects the books that my students read.

My classroom library has great books but it doesn't always match the interests of my students.

My Project

Students need engaging books in order for them to be excited about reading. Once children make a connection to the book they are reading, they get engaged and do not want to put the book back down.

Children begin to envision the story they are reading once they are fully engaged and love the book.

By having a better library in my classroom, I will reach more students in reading. My students love to have book clubs, however, it is sometimes hard to find books that both exciting and have strong characters that they are interested in. This project will show my students that there are great books. They will definitely find a book that is just right for them.
