My Project

My awesome scholars are located in Washington, DC. Although they face widespread poverty and a high crime rate in low-income and under-resourced areas, our school has a great tradition and great pride. Students are gifted intellectually, athletically, and musically.

Please give my students a culturally diverse classroom library that encompasses social-emotional learning to acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, and achieve personal and collective goals.

Education is a long-term solution to poverty which is why it is essential that all students are afforded the same opportunities to have equal access to educational material regardless of their disability and socioeconomic factors.

Our students have faced a number of challenges and hardships in and out of the classroom including adapting to remote learning and stress related to the COVID pandemic. Finding material is an unnecessary stress factor they shouldn't have to endure.

Schools should offer a variety of materials to differentiate lessons and afford students a diverse library. Allowing students access to multiple ways of learning and a diverse selection of text that is interesting and aligned with the curriculum will lead to more student engagement in the lessons. Bins will save valuable class time by making it easier to access classroom material.

Please help equip our Young Kings with the tools and knowledge they need to understand and eliminate racism, bigotry, and inequality, by donating to a new classroom library that can be used during guided reading and argumentative writing. Accessing the selected text will ensure students understand our criminal justice system and the legacy of racial injustice. It will also introduce them to a range of cultures and unique literacy devices used by each author to introduce new themes and approaches to writing. The diverse library will also inspire unique perspectives.
