This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a second-grade teacher, I strive to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where students are excited to learn and explore new concepts. Currently, our school is adopting a new curriculum that is intended to strengthen language development, but unfortunately, it does not come with books in the language I am teaching (Spanish). This gap has left my classroom lacking the necessary resources to fully support students’ biliteracy and two way language acquisition.

Books play a vital role in language learning, offering students the opportunity to develop their reading skills while also exposing them to different cultures, perspectives, and vocabulary.

Having access to a variety of engaging texts in the target language will provide my students with the tools they need to improve fluency, comprehension, and a love of reading. Without these books, my students miss out on essential resources that support both their academic growth and their personal enjoyment of learning.

I am requesting funding for a collection of books in the language I am teaching to enhance our classroom library. These books will cater to various reading levels and interests, ensuring that all students can find stories that resonate with them. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, or culturally significant stories, these books will help bridge the gap left by the new curriculum and provide my students with the necessary tools to succeed.
