This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been a teacher in the primary grades for more than 20 years. I have always valued professional development that allows me to meets the diverse needs of my students. This year, I am teaching a group of hardworking kindergarten students.

My students academic and language skills vary from far below grade level to advanced.

I am currently enrolled in a course that is equipping me to be much more effective at assessing my students literacy needs, and planning instruction to help them develop the language and reading skills needed to be proficient readers and writers.

My Project

I am requesting professional, research based resources that will help me to continue growing professionally to support my students in their literacy development.

The books will help me to implement approaches and strategies that are grounded in scientific research and that have been proven to be effective in helping students improve their skills.

I am committed to refine my instruction so that it meets my students needs. I want to provide all the opportunities they deserve to develop the important oral language skills needed to participate fully in the academic program and to develop all aspects of literacy. This is the first school experience for many of my students, and I want to make sure they leave the classroom at the end the year with a strong academic foundation and a desire to become life long learners.

I also want to use these texts as references during our professional learning community meetings when we analyze data and plan instruction to meet our student s' needs. I will make them available to my colleagues to inform their teaching.
