Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Can I go book shopping?" is the question my students continue to ask me every week. I would love for my students to continue loving books and to always be excited for the next one they are about to read. This can be tricky when our library lacks the variety and quantity of books they need.

To the children of our school in the South Bronx, school is one of their favorite places.

They know that when they come to school they will learn and they will be loved. They are empathetic, kindhearted, and determined young individuals. They learn these qualities from their peers, teachers, and even the books they indulge in. Our school is located in a high poverty area and many of our students reside in housing projects. Our school provides these children with the skills they need in order to succeed in middle school, high school, and in life. Our school places a heavy importance on literacy, doing our absolute best to raise their reading and writing skills. Our students make this easy for us because of how much they love reading books. They cannot wait to get their hands on the next new book! They need a way to keep their materials organized and easily accessible.

My Project

I am asking for a box of dry erase markers, a wall map and 22 seat sacks. My students will use these seat sacks to keep their books and supplies organized and safe. Having their own place to store their belongings allows for community building and making each students feel comfortable in his/her classroom. It makes them feel like they have a place inside the classroom. The wall map and dry erase markers will be used to teach students about geography. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of concepts by drawing directly on the map.

Thank you in advance for your kind and thoughtful donations.

Students will be very thankful to have a place to store their reading books, folders, notebooks, etc. It will even encourage them to have some organizational skills!
