This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Rain or shine my students come to school with a smile ready to learn each day. I teach in the South Bronx, and as an educator I do my best to provide my students with a culturally relevant education that promotes critical thinking, creative, and empathic members of our society. Many of my students are English Language Learners who are eager to learn and grow through hands-on activities to build their English skills.

Kindergarten is many of my students' first experience with school.

Entering a new school can be scary especially if you do not know the language. I work to provide my students with meaningful experiences to ease their transition into a new school as well as build upon their skills to become readers, writers and mathematicians!

My Project

For some of my students, this classroom library will be their first experience visiting and borrowing books from a library. By building a classroom library for my students, it will spark their interest in learning how to read, excite them in selecting a book on their own, and allow me to teach effective skills related to literacy.

Many of my students do not have access to books at home.

This classroom library, it will support my students to grow a love for reading while learning fundamental routines of borrowing and caring for books.

As my students grow into readers this year, the classroom library will provide my students with opportunities to engage with the English language through various fiction and non-fiction books.
